The Energy Storage Laboratory of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Tehran is the most comprehensive scientific center in this field in the country, which works on new batteries for electric vehicles, and paves the way for expansion of the use of electric vehicles in Iran.
The world of new batteries- Expansion of the use of electric cars in Iran goes through development of this laboratory

Dr. Zainab Sanaaee, Associate Professor of University of Tehran, and Director of the Energy Storage Laboratory, regarding the history of establishment, missions, activities, equipment and the future horizon of this laboratory, said:
The history of research in the field of batteries and supercapacitors in the Energy Storage Laboratory dates back to around 2011, when after several years of research the laboratory was finally established in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2014.
The main research direction of this laboratory is focused on production of lithium-ion batteries, currently the most widely used rechargeable batteries in the world. Regarding the subject of the project, the necessary materials and the construction process, we have tried to choose a path leading us to industrialization of the products and entry into the outside world.
Dr. Sanaaee added: "We believe that communication and cooperation between university and industry section can be very effective in improving the technology level of our country. In this regard, the efforts to connect with industrial centers led to equipping and renovating the Energy Storage Laboratory with a focus on researching in the field of lithium-ion batteries, in 2021.
The main projects in the Energy Storage Laboratory, carried out by graduate students, include the following categories:
• Batteries with silicon anode (including sections of: combined silicon/carbon anode, 100% silicon anode, pre-lithiation of the electrode)
• NMC and LFP cathodes
•Electrode improvement methods (proper dopings such as nitrogen doping, and proper coatings such as carbon coating, etc.)
• Solid state batteries
• Lithium sulfur batteries
• Lithium-Air batteries
• Electrospun batteries
• Modeling of lithium ion batteries

Complete facilities for lab scale fabrication and electrochemical testing of Li ion battery coin cells are prepared in this lab. Moreover, in order to facilitate the progress of lithium ion battery research in the country, the Energy storage laboratory gives the required service for assembling and testing of lithium ion battery to the researchers.
